Patrick J. "P.J." Hogan

Patrick J. “P.J.” Hogan is the Associate Vice Chancellor of Government Relations with the University System of Maryland (USM). P.J. is the chief adviser to Chancellor Kirwan and the USM Board of Regents on governmental relations policies and strategies, overseeing state and federal relations for the state's public higher education system. He will develop the system's legislative agenda and implement strategies to present the agenda to the state's elected officials, Maryland's congressional delegation, state and federal government agencies, and others. In addition, he will chair USM's State Relations Council, comprising government relations officers from the system's 13 institutions.

Prior to joining the USM, P.J. was the State Senator representing District 39 from 1994 – 2007. Senator Hogan was served as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and Chairman of the Education, Business and Administration Subcommittee, he was also a member of the Pensions Subcommittee and the Capital Budget Subcommittee. Senator Hogan also served as the Chairman of the Montgomery County Senate Delegation. Additionally, he served on the following Joint Committees; Spending Affordability, Legislative Policy, as well as many other committees and task forces.

From 1990 to 1994, Senator Hogan served as Legislative Assistant to Congresswoman Connie Morella. In this capacity he was responsible for issues relating to budget and economy, housing, Social Security, Medicare and Veterans Affairs. He also handled constituent inquiries with federal agencies, and served as a community liaison with local organizations. Prior to his position with Congresswoman Morella, Senator Hogan owned and operated a successful retail sporting goods business.

Senator Hogan lives in Montgomery Village, Maryland. He is married to Jacqueline P. Hogan, and has a sixteen year old daughter, Maura and a twelve year old son, Connor. Senator Hogan was born in Pittsburgh, PA and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
